Walk down Michelstadt Lane with Shane

Jamie and Shane went on a road trip to Michelstadt, Germany - Shane's old stomping ground many years ago. (I did not go, due to wariness of long car travel, however I am writing this, based on their travel tales, as if left to one of the travellers you might see a post around, say 2020).
So in summary,
- Car trip there went well, except for minor navigational domestic near the end.
- Shane received a popstar welcome from his landlady (and fam), people he tutored, and other friends.
- Jamie's schoolboy German proved of more linguistic value there, than a year and a half of immersion French here in Belgium.
- Vanessa Amorosi's 'Shine' featured on the playlist, in honour (jest) of Shane. His former colleague Aurelia (on left above) had misheard his name as 'Shine' on first introduction, and thought he really was such a ray of sunshine that she would never stand corrected.
- As you can seethe German girls love Shane.
1 Comments:
Was an awesome trip - really loved meeting all of Shane's old crew. We were welcomed so warmly by everyone. (The German girls really do have a thing for Shane)
An alarming number of Shane's old watering holes had sadly been turned into Chinese restaurants or otherwise "gibst nicht mehr", but apart from that, good old Michael Town was a truly memorable experience and I look forward to heading back sometime soon.
Dad/Maz, remind me to introduce you to the Muellers (Dieter and Helga) when you guys come over this way and head off camper-vanning around the place. They are a beautiful couple who have some amazing stories of their own travels. (Although their old Wohnwagen has seen better days.) I'm sure they'd love to share experiences and give you some tips for your next big adventure, and maybe even put you up if you are passing through the gorgeous Odenwald region.
